sad city hartford

neighbor to the north - Hartford. recently, i stumbled across this site about the once thriving capitol of connecticut. 
good and bad facets of the area are discussed. the one time downtown was not enough, i will be back to investigate and form my own expert opinion. 
i'm slowly getting used to the sheer amount of abandoned industrial spaces littering this corner of the US. 
attesting its rich, manufacturing past.

new haven 4th most dangerous city in the US. i have yet to feel this negative statistic's presence in town. i make where i live (to a certain extent... a line has to be drawn. would you live in Flint, MI?)

greeted by an old friend, whisked off to brooklyn -- to a commune on the top floor of a converted industrial structure. weekend dominated by pizza, walking, coffee, gin, hipster-watching. basta con las barbas!

architectural fantasies_january

While architecture subtly pervades my drawings in various degrees, sometimes it is outright. 
This month saw stacking and digging.


As with previous posts, the stacking of middle to upper class homes on top of urban structures. 
I can't fully explain it yet, but it's becoming an obsession hard to avoid.

monstruos del eixample

In Barcelona's relatively consistent 7-10 story grid, there stand out monsters (as friends and i have since dubbed them). They are those structures that defy the unofficial height code, looming over corners and plazas. From surrounding hills or rooftops, the monsters help orient the urban viewer, points of reference in a grid that can be daunting.


 This particular one, la torre urquinaona, ingeniously in plaza urquinaona, is particularly ferocious and violent. It's beveled and jutting spines with dark windows hide the clerks and office men inside. In this pic, an employee is angry about being the only one left in the monster after closing time.

uma finca muito louca

muchas veces, no sabemos de dónde vienen la inspiración y la idea inicial. nos llegan indirectamente, bueno..para mi a través de los sueños y ensueños. 
pero esta vez, el vínculo se ve claramente en el edificio y lo que lo inspiró. lo dibujé en una reunión de curro en la que me aburría tanto... claro.
